Chipotle Launches ’Zipotle’ Drone Deliveries in Texas

Chipotle has partnered with Zipline to launch a drone delivery service in Rowlett, Texas, a suburb of Dallas. The pilot program, dubbed 'Zipotle,' will initially serve a small group of early access users before expanding in the coming weeks. Orders placed through the Zipline app will be delivered by autonomous electric aircraft capable of carrying up to 5.5 pounds.
The drones, called Zips, retrieve packages from a 'Zipping Point' at Chipotle locations and hover approximately 300 feet above the delivery address before lowering the order via tether. While the service promises rapid delivery—potentially under 10 minutes—expansion to more densely populated areas remains unlikely in the NEAR term.
